Introduction:

A foreign worker that gives birth, in Israel, to 3 or more children at one time is entitled to a Childbirth Allowance for 9 months in the same way an Israeli woman is
The childbirth allowance is paid in addition to the maternity grant and other allowances (maternity allowance, child allowance etc)
The allowance is paid to the mother on condition that she or her husband have been employed in Israel for at least 6 months, if after 30 days from birth at least 3 children are alive

The Childbirth Allowance is a special allowance paid to a woman that gave birth to 3 or more children at one time.

  • The allowance is also paid to a foreign worker that gave birth in Israel, to 3 or more children at one time, on condition that she or her husband have been employed in Israel for at least 6 months.
  • The childbirth allowance is paid on condition that after 30 days from birth, at least 3 children are alive.
    • The allowance amount for the first month after birth is based on the number of children alive after 30 days have passed from birth.
    • For the months after the first, the payment allowance is determined by the number of children alive on the first of that month.
  • According to the law, the allowance is paid for 9 months from the month after birth. In actuality the National Insurance Institute pays the allowance over a longer period of time - up to 20 months.

Who is Eligible?

  • A foreign worker that meets all of the following conditions:
    1. She or her spouse have been employed in Israel for at least 6 months.
    2. She gave birth to 3 or more children in one birth.
    3. The birth took place in Israel.
    4. 30 days after birth at 3 children were alive.

How to Claim It?

  • A birth that occurred in a hospital:
    • The childbirth allowance in paid automatically and there is no need to submit a claim.
    • Payment is made to the bank account that the child grant is paid to, 30 days after the birth.
    • At her first birth, the woman will provide the hospital with the bank details that she wants the maternity grant and childbirth allowance to be deposited into.
  • If the birth did not take place in a hospital (for example a woman who gave birth at home), contact the local National Insurance Institute branch and submit a childbirth allowance claim.

Please Note

  • The childbirth allowance is paid in addition to the maternity grant and other allowances (maternity allowance, child allowance etc).
  • The National Insurance Law states that the childbirth allowance should be paid over 9 months, but in actuality the National Insurance Institutes pays it over 20 months.
  • The allowance amounts change and may go down towards the end of the allowance period.
  • A foreign worker who gives birth outside of Israel is not entitled to a childbirth allowance.
