Individuals with limited mobility are eligible for reimbursement of expenses for mobility accessories installed in their private vehicle, in accordance with the conditions detailed below.
- The reimbursement amount is for 95% of the total cost of the accessories and their installment in the vehicle, according to the National Insurance Institute's accessories price listing or the actual price, whichever is lower.
Who is Eligible?
- Individuals with limited mobility are entitled to a reimbursement if they meet the following conditions of eligibility:
- They receive a Monthly Mobility Allowance for Vehicle Owners.
- They have a valid driver's license.
- The Medical Institute for Road Safety has determined that they require special accessories for driving, safety while driving and use of the vehicle, and has determined the accessories that are necessary.
- Their vehicle is not a special accessories vehicle (a vehicle in which they can sit or drive in their wheelchair).
- Within six months of the date of installation, they have provided a tax invoice and original receipts detailing the accessories that were installed in the vehicle to the National Insurance Institute's Mobility Department.
- They are not entitled to receive special accessories or a grant to purchase and install accessories in a private vehicle by virtue of any other law or arrangement, and if they are eligible for such assistance, they have chosen to receive such assistance as part of the mobility agreement instead.
- In cases where accessories were installed following a vehicle trade-in, at least 42 months must have passed since the last time a reimbursement of this type was received.
How to Claim It?
- Within six months of the date of installation, the tax invoice and original receipts detailing the accessories that were installed in the vehicle must be provided to the National Insurance Institute's Mobility Department.
- The invoice and receipts may be sent by mail to the nearest National Insurance Institute branch.
