The Institute for the Advancement of Deaf Persons in Israel offers various services to make higher education more accessible for deaf and hearing impaired students

The Institute for the Advancement of Deaf Persons in Israel operates the Center for the Advancement of Accessibility and Equality in Post-Secondary Education for Deaf and Hearing Impaired Youth.
The Center's activities include:

  1. Pre-academic - Psychometric testing accomodations/acceptance criteria accommodations
  2. Accommodations and accessibility during academic studies

The Center's services include the following, among others:

  • Providing information and advising regarding students' rights
  • Providing general explanations to raise awareness regarding proper accessibility in the academic environment
  • Providing explanations to professors regarding the use of F.M. devices.
  • Providing explanations to the deans, academic advisors, support centers, and accessibility advisors regarding relevant accommodations and rights
  • Providing explainations to professors regarding: accommodations during lectures, extra time, English-language accommodations, permitting projects instead of tests, etc.
  • Lending services for equipment related to accessibility, such as laptop computers and F.M. devices
  • Professional personal advocacy services providing intervention in cases where accessibility needs are not met, rights are not granted, etc.
  • Assistance finding relevant accessibility service providers for interpreting/transcription
  • Professional social representation before institutional academic and political decision makers regarding equality and accessibility in order to promote continued advancements related to accessibility in higher education
